February is the last whole month of winter!

Reader,

It's the last whole month of winter! While we love the downtime of winter and are truly grateful for some much-needed snow (that we are still anticipating), Spring is tiptoeing closer, and I am filled with excitement!! I hope you are too.

February is another month of maintenance and preparation to help ensure a successful growing season. Are you ready?

Want to plant something outside now:

February Garden Planning and Maintenance

• Start a garden journal for this year. Some ideas of what to include in your journal: dates of sowing, transplanting, varieties, blooming dates, and pertinent notes about each crop. Don't have a journal, download 2022 Garden Journal.pdf

• Inventory your seed starting supplies. Order vegetable seeds for all growing seasons, spring planting, summer, and fall.

• Check the garden after severe winter storms, remove any debris add mulch as necessary.

• If you didn't do this as part of your Fall clean-up: Clean and sharpen garden tools.

• COLD FRAME: Reminder to ventilate the cold frame when the temperature is above 55°F.

Snow and ice, and freezing temperatures will prevail in cold winter regions this month. Spring is still five weeks away. Don't be fooled by the warm days of winter, often referred to as fools Spring. Don't plant too early.
